Fortunately, de Broglio Attorneys has secured Brenda a R200 000 settlement from the Road Accident Fund to compensate, to some extent, for her pain and suffering as well as her loss of future earning capacity.
Brenda was a passenger in a minibus taxi on 20 January 2007, travelling on the Soweto highway near the Diepkloof intersection, when another driver turned in front of them. The resulting collision left Brenda with facial fractures and cuts to her nose.
She was fortunate to escape a serious head injury, but the accident has left her face scarred for life – not to mention her self-esteem – and this young woman who had embarked on a course to become a waitress has had to abandon her plans.
“It is tragic that a young life can become permanently affected by a senseless accident caused by the recklessness of others,” says Michael de Broglio.
“This young woman will battle to build up the confidence needed for the service industry, but at least she has the opportunity to use her RAF payout wisely to build a secure future for herself.”
